Public Works engineers urged to find better ways
to build better bridges
Ayeyawady River Bridge (Magway) to be opened soon
Vice-Senior General Maung Aye inspects Ayeyawady River Bridge (Magway), New Magway Airport, Paunglaung Multi-Purpose Dam projects

Yangon, 12 Nov - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Maung Aye inspected progress in building the Ayeyawady River Bridge (Magway), the New Magway Airport Project and the Paunglaung Multi-Purpose Dam Project today.
Vice-Senior General Maung Aye visited the projects together with Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt. On arrival at Magway
Airport at 8.15 am. During inspection of the Ayeyawady River Bridge (Magway), where flooring was completed, the Vice-Senior General and party heard a report on the salient points of the project starting from finding of the axis to building of the bridge presented by the Construction Minister.
Chief Engineer (Bridge) U Han Zaw reported to the Vice-Senior General and party on construction of the approach structures and the main bridge in accord with the set standards, the amount of cement, and fuel and the number of steel rods used in building the bridge and preparations being made to open the facility.
Then, the Transport Minister explained the current of the river at the bridge.
The Secretary-1 spoke of the need to make arrangements to constantly survey the current, to ensure safety of the boats and to prevent bank erosion.
Brig-Gen Ye Myint and Col Zaw Min gave a supplementary report.
Vice-Senior General Maung Aye said the engineers of Public Works have gained much experience in bridge building, and they have become skilful in the task. They should always strive to find better ways to build better bridges and should keep complete records on the bridge projects.
Collective efforts are required to increase the use of locally-made parts in building bridges in the future.
The Vice-Senior General and party looked into the requirements in making the preparations to hold the bridge opening ceremony on Magway bank.
After inspecting the bridge, they attended to the needs in making arrangements to hold the opening ceremony on Minbu bank and viewed the final touches of the project including the progress in laying tar on the road of the approach structure and the main bridge.
The inauguration of the Ayeyawady Bridge (Mag-way) constructed by Myanmar engineers will be held soon.
Vice-Senior General Maung Aye and party went to the construction site of new Magway Airport.
Vice-Senior General Maung Aye and party heard a report on the new Magway Airport construction project and progress of work by Minister Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe.
Managing Director of Asia World Co Ltd U Tun Myint Naing reported on ground levelling for the new airport, progress of work, laying concrete on the runway, construction of apron and the airport terminal.
Vice-Senior General Maung Aye gave instructions on completion of the runway in time and construction of the airport terminal.
Vice-Senior General Maung Aye and party inspected scale model of the new Magway Airport. The Vice-Senior General then signed in the visitors' book.
The Vice-Senior General and party inspected laying of 8-inch thick concrete on the runway and laying of 14-inch thick surface.
The 8,900 feet runway is now under construction.
At 11.30 am, Vice-Senior General Maung Aye and party went by helicopter to the site of Paunglaung Multi-Purpose Dam Project in Pyinmana Township, Yamethin District, Mandalay Division.

They were welcomed by Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut, Deputy Minister U Myo Myint and officials.
Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin reported on construction of the main dam and spillways, progress of work and supply of machinery.
Deputy Minister U Myo Myint reported on construction of the diversion tunnel and power intake and underground power station and progress of work.
Minister Maj-Gen Tin Htut reported on arrival of equipment from abroad, supply of fuel and cement, power supply and construction of the sub-power station and progress of work.
Vice-Senior General Maung Aye then gave instructions.

The Paunglaung multi-purpose Dam project is being implemented on Paunglaung River, 10 miles east of Pyinmana.
The 3,100 feet long and 430 feet high dam is under construction. On completion, it will prevent flooding the Paunglaung river and irrigate 35,000 acres of farmlands. The four turbines of the underground power station will generate 280 megawatts. Vice-Senior General Maung Aye and party then went to Toungoo by helicopter and arrived back here in the evening.
