Health Minister receives Malaysian counterpart Mutual cooperation in health sector discussed
Yangon, 12 Nov - Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein received the visiting Malaysian delegation led by Malaysian Health Minister Mr
Dato' Chua Jui Meng, to cooperate in development of traditional medicine between the two countries, at the meeting hall of the ministry on Pyidaungsu Yeiktha
Road in Dagon Township this morning.
Then, Director-General of the Health Planning Department Dr Kyi Soe also briefed the guests on the policy of the NHC and tasks being carried out in accord with the health development programmes, cooperation with international communities and NGOs; Director-General of the Medical Science Department Professor Dr Maung Maung Wint on the set-up of the department, the conducting of courses, and endeavours for medical development; Director-General of Medical Research Department Professor Dr Paing Soe on the set-up of the department, research on common diseases of Myanmar; and Deputy Director-General of the Health Department Dr Soe Aung on the set-up of the department, and public health care activities.

Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein and his Malaysian counterpart and officials cordially discussed matters related to mutual
cooperation in the health sector. After the Malaysian Health Minister spoke words of thanks, the meeting came to an end.
Next, the Malaysian minister and party, accompanied by Deputy Minister Professor Dr Kyaw Myint, arrived at Yangon Traditional Medicine Hospital in Bahan Township.
At the meeting hall of the hospital, Director-General of the Traditional Medicine Department Professor Dr Thein Swe reported on the historical background of Myanmar traditional medicine, tasks for the development of the traditional medicine, the set-up of the department, the emergence of the hospital and the university of traditional medicine, and public health care activities with the use of traditional medicine.
Later, Director-General of the Traditional Medicine Department Dr Sein Win also reported on traditional medicine laws, and Director of Food and Drug Administration Department Dr Soe Myat Tun on registration of food and traditional medicine industries.

Professor Dr Kyaw Myint and Professor Dr Thein Swe replied to queries raised by the Malaysian minister and party.
Then, the Malaysian minister presented Professor Dr Thein Swe a book on herbal plants grown in Malaysia and signed in the
visitors' book.
He also met with U Ba Thein, a traditional medicine practitioner.
Professor Dr Thein Swe and medical superintendent Dr Thein Kyaw conducted the Malaysian minister and party round the
women's ward, monks' ward, men's ward, and in-patient ward at the hospital.

They also viewed the practical treatment with the use of Myanmar traditional medicine. In the evening, Maj-Gen Ket Sein hosted a dinner in honour of the visiting Malaysian minister and party at Karaweik Palace.
