Commander, ministers inspect development tasks in Yangon South District

Yangon, 2 Nov - Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe, Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Thein Zaw and Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi, accompanied by departmental officials, toured Twantay, Kawhmu and Kungyangon townships, Yangon South District, this morning and inspected regional development tasks.

At 9 am, they arrived at Dalla Port where they were welcomed by officials, members of USDA, MCWA and Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigades. The commander and the ministers went to Kawhmu Township Peace and Development Council Office and met with departmental officials, members of USDA, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigades, MCWA, Working Committee for Women's Affairs and local people.

The commander gave instructions on guidance of the Head of State on undertaking five rural development tasks, efforts to be made in the agricultural sector for regional economic development, cultivation and production of monsoon and summer paddy, edible oil crops and pulses and beans to exceed the target, extension of livestock breeding tasks, and agriculture and livestock breeding tasks to be carried out for improving living standard of the people.

Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi explained tasks to be undertaken for economic development taking advantage of good natural resources in Kawhmu Township and Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Thein Zaw, installation of telephone lines and extension of telephone exchanges in the en -tire nation for better  telecommunications and the plan for building Microwave Station on Latkhat Hill in Kawhmu region.

Township Chairman U Myint reported on agriculture and regional development tasks in the township. The local people reported on requirements in cultivating summer paddy and cold season crop. Then, the commander and the ministers attended to their needs.

Next, the commander and the ministers inspected use of public telephones at the public phone offices in Kawhmu. They then Kawhmu Magneto Telephone Exchange and inspected telephone communications works.

Afterwards, they proceeded to Kungyangon Township Peace and Development Council office and met local people at Mokkyun Yadana Hall. The commander explained assistance to be provided to development of education, health, transport, economic and agricultural sectors and efforts to be made with might and main for development of production in agriculture and livestock breeding tasks.

Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi explained the education promotion sector being undertaken by the State for regional development, construction of roads and bridges and availability of electricity. Minister Brig-Gen Thein Zaw also explained the plan under way to built the micro wave station on Latkhat Hill for use of auto-telephones in the region, performance of modern communications matters and tasks to be carried out departmental personnel to join hands with the local people.

Officials reported on agriculture and regional development tasks. Local people also reported on requirements in development of Kungyangon Township. The commander and the ministers fulfilled the requirements.

At Ayeyawady Bridge (Dedaye) Construction Project, Deputy Superintending Engineer U Khin Maung Win reported on construction of the bridge, completion of approach roads and installation of steel frames at the main bridge. The commander and the ministers gave instructions on timely completion of the bridge with set standard and safely measures at the work sites. They then inspected construction of the bridge.

Ayeyawady Bridge (Dedaye) will link Ingapu Village in Kungyangon Township of Yangon Division and Dadeye of Ayeyawady Division. The bridge will be 4,088 fee long and will have a 28-foot-wide motor way and six feet wide pedestrian way on either sides. The bridge has 350 feet wide and 36 feet high clearance. The bridge is being built of reinforced concrete piles, RDC bole piles and reinforced concrete foundation and of steel frames. The bridge can withstand 60-ton loads. On completion of the road, the bridge can contribute towards better transport of local products between Ayeyawady and Yangon Divisions in a short time.
