Provisions donated to monasteries in Dagon, South Okkalapa Townships

YANGON, 3 Aug - Families of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air) and wellwishers donated provisions and cash to monasteries in Dagon Township, at Dagon Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Dagon Township this morning, attended by member of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Thein Sein.

Also present were member of the State Central Working Committee of the Sangha Presiding Nayaka of Dagon Pariyatti Sarthintaik Agga Maha Pandita Sayadaw Bhaddanta Gunananda and members of the Sangha, Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe, Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, senior military officers, local authorities, departmental officials and wellwishers.

Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Thein Sein and Minister Brig-Gen Pyi Sone donated provisions to the Sayadaws.

Next, Camp Commandant Maj-Gen Hla Aung Thein, Captain Naval Staff (Navy) Captain Nyan Tun and Colonel General Staff (Air) Col Zin Yaw offered rice to the Sayadaws.

Afterwards, the Adjutant-General, the commander, the minister and senior military officers accepted donations for the monasteries from wellwishers.

Today's donations in Dagon Township were 158 bags of rice, 52 viss of edible oil, 525 viss of iodized salt, 52 tubes of tooth paste, 105 viss of gram and K 264,739.

Similarly, the provision donation ceremony was held at Dhammayon of South Okkalapa Pagoda in South Okkalapa Township at 3 pm. Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Thein Sein, the commander, the minister and senior military officers donated provisions to the Sayadaws.

Next, departmental officials and wellwishers donated rice, edible oil, salt, medicine and gram to members of the Sangha. The wellwishers also donated cash to the funds of monasteries through the Adjutant-General, the commander, the minister and senior military officers.

Today's donations in South Okkalapa Township were 367 bags of rice, 210 viss of edible oil, 2,760 viss of iodized salt, 277 tubes of tooth paste, 2,854 bottles of traditional medicine, 302 viss of gram, 480 bottles of C-Plus soft drink, 2,000 bars of soap and K 2,624,459.
