Lt-Gen Thura Shwe Mann and
Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Soe Win meet departmental officials in Taunggyi

Yangon, 17 April -
Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Thura Shwe Mann,
Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Soe Win,
members of the State Peace and Development Council and the ministers,
together with departmental heads, met members of Shan State Peace and
Development Council, departmental officials and local authorities at City
Hall of Taunggyi on 13 April.
At the meeting, Chairman of
Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen
Khin Maung Myint reported on cultivable acres of land in Shan State (South),
cultivation of crops, measures being taken for local rice sufficiency,
highland reclamation tasks and GDP of Shan State.

Minister for Agriculture and
Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin reported on matters related to ensuring
correctness of sown acreage and produce, extended cultivation of edible oil
crops sunflower and rubber, and water supply; Minister for Industry-1 U Aung
Thaung, on arrangements being made by the Ministry of Industry-1 for
expansion of industries in Shan State (South), assistance provided for
industrial development under the industrial development programme, and
prospects of the industrial zones including Aye Thayar Industrial Zone;
Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun on road and bridge construction
projects being implemented for smooth transport, and roads and bridges under
construction in Shan State; Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi, on tasks
being carried out for development of energy sector and fuel supply to Shan
State (South); Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung on opening of
colleges and universities constructed by the State for the development of
human resources; Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut on Kengtaung
Hydel-power Station Project to be implemented in Shan State (South) and the
Coal-fired Electric Power Station Project (Tikyit) under implementation, and
projects being implemented by the government for more power supply; Minister
for Health Dr Kyaw Myint on measures being taken for upgrading of the health
sector; and Minister for Rail Transportation Maj-Gen Aung Min on progress in
construction of Shwenyaung-Namhasn railroad, railroad sections in which
trains are running, and conditions of transportation services being carried
out by departments and enterprises under the Ministry of Rail Transportation
for the convenience of the people.
Then, the Secretary-2
stressed the importance of facts about field trips made by officials
concerned for development of respective States, Divisions, Districts,
Townships and Village-tracts, tasks to be carried out with added momentum
for development of the agriculture sector as well as the industrial sector
of the State, collecting correct figure and data region-wise, and strenuous
efforts to be made with patriotic spirit for perpetual existence of the
nation and people in globalization age.
Speaking on the occasion,
Lt-Gen Thura Shwe Mann said that the government is making all-out efforts
and rendering necessary assistance after making assessments for equitable
development of all parts of the nation. He added that compared with the
situations of the State in 1988, one can note the significant development on
the basis of figures and as it is .
The achievements in
developing Shan State (South) are satisfactory. It is due to collective and
united efforts of all made on self-reliant basis. He noted that government
employees discharging duties representing the respective offices and
departments as well as the State are to serve as a bridge between the
government and the people in order to gain the participation of the public.
Only then, will the projects be successfully implemented sector-wise and
there will be greater development of the entire nation. In constructing a
building or in upgrading the old one, tasks cannot be successfully carried
out by a single person or single department and accomplishments can only be
achieved through coordination, cooperation and genuine goodwill. Accompanied
by Managing Director of Myanma Foodstuff Industries U Kyaw Myint, Minister U
Aung Thaung, who accompanied Lt-Gen Thura Shwe Mann, on 12 April inspected
construction of the tomato reprocessing factory in the Aye Thayar Industrial
Zone in Taunggyi Township.
