Minister inspects
progress of new Magway Airport construction

April — Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe,
accompanied by Director-General U Win Maung of Department of
Civil Aviation, Managing Director U Tin Hlaing Hmi of Myanma
Airways and officials, left here by air today and landed at the
runway of new Magway Airport at 6.30 am.

At the briefing
hall, officials of DCA and Asia World Co reported to the
minister on completion of Magway Airport and the first phase of
the runway cent per cent, completion of the entrance road to the
apron, concrete laying of the apron and progress in construction
of Magway Airport Building. The minister attended to their
needs.
Then, the
minister and party inspected test-landing of Fokker F-27 of
Myanma Airways at the runway of the airport. Then, the minister
and party saw over construction sites of the airport building
and the apron and gave instructions on completion of the works
as soon as possible.
Next, the
minister and party viewed the new runway by car.
The Magway
Airport will have 12,000 feet long and 200 feet wide concrete
runway. In the first phase, the 8,500 feet long, 100 feet wide
and 22 inches thick runway has been completed. In addition, the
apron, the road leading to the apron and airport buildings are
being built. The airport will soon be opened. Aircraft of
domestic airlines will land at the airport.
