Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspects
river water pumping projects in NyaungU and Myingyan Districts

Yangon, 2 April - Member of the State
Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Ye Myint of the Ministry of Defence
left Bagan-NyaungU on yesterday morning and arrived at the pumping station-2
of Letpanchepaw River Water Pumping Project. They inspected irrigation of
fields of cotton and other crops at the project and land reclamation works
there. A total of 600 acres of land have been reclaimed so far against 2,000
acres target of the project. Then, they viewed the cultivation of
Shwethweyin summer paddy in the farms in Ywathitgon Village in Letpanchepaw
Village-tract and Thayetgon Village. Afterwards, they arrived at
Letpanchepaw River Water Pumping Project. After hearing reports of the
responsible officials, Lt-Gen Ye Myint gave instructions on timely
completion of the project, minimizing loss and wastage and cultivation of
double and mixed crops. Then, Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party inspected the
dredging of the Ayeyawady River and condition of pumps. Then, they proceeded
to the land reclamation camp near Kandaw Village and inspected the work
being carried out.
Afterwards, Lt-Gen Ye Myint
and party arrived at Ngathayauk River Water Pumping Project in Taungtha
Village, Myingyan District. They heard reports on works done and future
tasks, availability of electric power, irrigation capacity of the project
and irrigated acreage submitted by officials. After inspecting the
installation of pipes at the pump station-1 of the project, they inspected
the main canal, the sluice gate and installation of pump at pump station-2
of the project and installation of transformers and pipe lines there.
Afterwards, they went to Kyawzi River Water Pumping Project near Kyawzi
Village in the township. After hearing reports on works done, future tasks
and availability of electric power presented by officials, they inspected
the installation of pipes and construction of the pump station-2. Then, they
inspected the gravelling and tarring of Bagan-NyaungU-Myingyan Road in
Kyawzi Village and reclamation of seasonal cultivation land into permanent
farms in Kyawzi Village-tract with use of tractors.
Afterwards, Lt-Gen Ye Myint
met with elders and farmers of the village and explained that the project
would be able to irrigate farmland and therefore the agriculture sector of
the region would develop soon. Roads were being upgraded to ensure the
smooth transportation in the regions, he said. He urged those present to
grow monsoon paddy with use of irrigated water.
Afterwards, Lt-Gen Ye Myint
and party inspected the reclamation of land beside Bagan-NyaungU-Myingyan
motor road near East Kandaw Village and Minkyo Village.
Then, Lt-Gen Ye Myint and
party arrived at Sindewa Creek Bridge in Taungtha Township.
At the briefing hall of the
project, Myingyan District Senior Engineer U Tun Myint reported on upgrading
of NyaungU-Myingyan-Myotha road and future tasks.
Lt-Gen Ye Myint gave
instructions on minimizing loss and wastage, tarring of the road and
maintenance tasks.
Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party
then proceeded to Seiknyan river water pumping project near Htanaungtaing
Village in Myingyan Township.
At the briefing hall, Deputy
Director U Khin Zaw reported on irrigated acres of the project, pumping of
Ayeyawady River water, digging of main tributary canal, plans for
cultivation of monsoon paddy and other crops and arrival of machinery.
Director-General of Water Resources Utilization Department U Win Shwe gave
supplementary reports. Lt-Gen Ye Myint gave instructions on timely
completion and arrangements for reclamation of land and supply of water.
Then, Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party inspected the project site and gave
necessary instructions.
Lt-Gen Ye Myint met with
chairmen and members of the district and township Peace and Development
Councils, departmental officials and social organizations at the Manikinzana
hall in Myingyan. Myingyan District Peace and Development Council Chairman
Lt-Col Win Myint reported on the set-up of departments in the district and
township, population, condition of agriculture, forestry, dams and river
water pumping projects in the district, cultivation of paddy for food
sufficiency in the region, sufficiency of edible oil, livestock breeding,
fish and meat, education, health and transport sectors, extended cultivation
of summer and monsoon paddy and plans for land reclamation. Mandalay
Division Peace and Development Council Chairman Central Command Commander
Maj-Gen Ye Myint presented supplementary report.
Lt-Gen Ye Myint delivered a
speech on the occasion, saying that the government is making strenuous
efforts day and night for building up a modern and developed nation, adding
in this process, measures are being taken for equitable development of
states and divisions including border areas. He noted that only when rural
areas are developed, will the nation be developed. The five rural
development tasks have been laid down and are being implemented.
In the district, river water
pumping stations are being constructed with the aim of extending cultivation
of paddy and other crops. Therefore, the local farmers and departmental
officials need to actively participate in the tasks. The departmental staff
are urged to make field trips to remote areas to carry out welfare tasks for
the interest of the local people. Then, Lt-Gen Ye Myint greeted departmental
officials and members of social organizations and spent the night in
Myingyan.
