Secretary-1 and wife attend Religious Titles Conferring Ceremony

Yangon, 14 March — The State Peace and Development Council, in paying reverence to members of the Sangha, nuns and laity for their religious services, issued the Notification No 1/2003 on 4 January 2003 and conferred religious titles on them.

Under the notification, Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Titles have been conferred on two Sayadaws, Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Titles on three Sayadaws, Agga Maha Pandita Titles on 21 Sayadaws, Missionary Titles on 92 Sayadaws, three nuns and one laity, Kammathanacariya Titles on 20 Sayadaws, Ganthavacaka Titles on 97 Sayadaws and 11 nuns, Dhammakathika Titles on two Sayadaws, and Sasana Nuggaha Titles on 12 men and 21 women.
A ceremony to confer religious titles on members of the Sangha, nuns and laity was held at Maha Pasana Cave on Kaba Aye Hill today, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe.

 

The State Orchestra played the religious songs before the ceremony.

Then, Deputy-Director-General U Htin Myo, Director U Tun Hla and Director U Mya Win of the Ministry of Religious Affairs ushered member Sayadaws of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, Tipitakadhara Tipitaka-kovida Sayadaws, and title recipient Sayadaws and nuns through the southern entrance of the cave.

Staff Officer U Tun Naing ushered Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida Sayadaws.

The ceremony began at 12.15 pm. Staff Officer of Yangon Division Religious Affairs Department U San Thin Hlaing acted as master of ceremonies. Then, Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko supplicated on religious matters.

Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Mandalay Masoyein Taikthit Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sirindabhivamsa administered the Five Precepts.

 

Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt presented certificates of Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru  Title to Winayanayu Padetha Kyaung Sayadaw Bhaddanta Panña Samibhivamsa of Masoyein Monastery in Mahaaungmye Township, Mandalay Division, and Gawthitayama Pali Tekkatho Monastery Sayadaw Bhaddanta Acinnabhivamsa in Dawei, Taninthayi Division.

Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin supplicated on religious matters, saying that the State Peace and Development Council has been striving for promotion of perpetuation of the Sasana. It has been presenting titles to members of the Sangha, nuns and lay persons. Since the Notification No 1/2003 has been issued on 4 January 2003, a total of 285 persons have received the titles up to now. The government is presenting the titles in honour of the religious virtues and efforts of the members of the Sangha, nuns and lay persons. All will have to obey the ovada of the Sayadaws and strive to serve the interest of the Sasana.

 

Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Sayadaw of Gawthitarama Palitekkatho Monastery in Dawei, Taninthayi Division, Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Bhaddanta Asinnabhivamsa, on whom Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Title  was conferred at this year religious title conferring ceremony,  delivered an ovadakatha.

Afterwards, Secretary of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Magway Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits gained. The ceremony concluded at 2.35 pm.

Under the arrangements of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council, provisions worth K 76,401,785 donated by Yangon Division Peace and Development Council, ministries, offices, commands, divisions, stations, departments, Peace and Development Councils of respective divisions, districts and townships, religious organizations and wellwishers were offered  to the title recipient Sayadaws and nuns at over 130 pandals around Maha Pathana Cave, where the sixth Buddhist synod was held.

 

Secretary-1  General Khin Nyunt and wife, member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Thura Shwe Mann of the Ministry of Defence and wife and Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Soe Win and wife offered provisions to the Sayadaws and nuns at the pandals of the State Peace and Development Council Office, the Ministry of Defence and families of Military Intelligence.

 

In the like manner, respective ministers, deputy ministers and officials offered provisions to the Sayadaws and nuns.

 

Ruby Dragon and Jade Dragon Co of the Special Region-6 offered provisions to  the Sayadaws and nuns.
