Princess
Sirindhorn enjoys natural scenery, traditional dances and
hospitality of ethnic races in Kachin State

Yangon, 14 March —
Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of the Kingdom of Thailand
visited Putao in Kachin State on 12 and 13 March.
Accompanied by Minister for
Foreign Affairs U Win Aung and wife, Ambassador of Myanmar to
Thailand U Myo Myint and wife, Director-General of the
Department of Myanmar Missions Abroad U Ko Ko Kyaw, and
Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar Mr Oum Maolanon and wife,
Princess Sirindhorn left Lashio in northern Shan State for
Myitkyina in Kachin State, at 9.45 am on 12 March by special
flight.

She was seen off at the
airport by Chairman of Shan State (North) Peace and Development
Council Commander of North-East Command Maj-Gen Myint Hlaing and
wife, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Hla Myint, officials and
traditional dance troupes.

Before her departure from the
town, the commander presented a souvenir to the Princess. The
Princess also presented a souvenir to the commander and wife.

The plane touched down at Nantpaung Airport in Myitkyina at
11.10 am, and the Princess was welcomed by Chairman of Kachin
State Peace and Development Council Commander of Northern
Command Maj-Gen Maung Maung Swe and wife, Commander of Myitkyina
Air Base Brig-Gen Bo Kyi and wife, officials and local people.

She then helicoptered to
Tanphe village located in a place where Maykha and Malikha
formed the Ayeyawady River. She went to the confluence in a
motorcade and viewed the natural scenery there. She also posed
for a photo together with the local ethnic races.

At Buddha Sasana Ngahtaung San
Pagoda at the confluence, she offered flowers and lights and
paid obeisance to the Buddha images.

The Princess also presented
cash donation for the pagoda.

On arrival at Putao by air
from Myitkyina in the afternoon, the Princess was welcomed by
Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu,
officials and dance troupes of the ethnic races.
The Princess then went to
Mulasheedi village in Putao Township. On the lawns of Mulasheedi
Villa, she enjoyed watching the dances of the ethnic races and
studying their utensils.

The Princess then viewed the
Mulasheedi Suspension Bridge on Mula Creek, and the scenery of
the creek and its surrounding areas. At the Khakabozari National
Park, the Princess visited the booths showing the map of Kachin
State, environmental preservation areas in Kachin State, in the
extreme north of the country, and in the entire Myanmar, forest
resources, the causes leading to destroy the watershed areas,
watershed areas, nature tourism sites, photo documentaries of
experts visiting the northern areas of Kachin State, endeavours
of the wildlife conservation group, world heritage sites,
endangered plant and animal species, and flora and fauna found
in Myanmar.

Director-General of the Forest Department U Shwe
Kyaw and officials conducted her round the booths.

She also visited the orchid
booths where over 50 local orchid species have been collected
and displayed.

The commander and wife hosted
a dinner in honour of the Princess at Khakaborazi Villa in Putao.
She enjoyed the traditional dances of Hkamti Shan, Lisu and
Rawun.
The
commander presented a souvenir to the Princess, and the Princess
also presented a souvenir to the commander and wife. She spent
the night at the villa.
Accompanied by the commander
and wife, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited Kaungmulon (Shwe
Hsatmin) Pagoda, which was built on the bank of Malikha River at
about 300 BC, the next morning.

She paid respects and offered
flowers and lights to the Buddha images. Afterwards, she
presented cash donation for the pagoda which is located at Kaungmulon village, Machanbaw Township, Putao District. The
pagoda broad of trustees presented her a picture of the pagoda.

Sirindhorn left Putao by special flight for Sittway in Rakhine
State at 11.15 am. She was seen off at the airport by the
commander and wife, officials and traditional dance troupes.

On arrival at Sittway, the
Princes was welcomed by Chairman of Rakhine State Peace and
Development Council Commander of Western Command Maj-Gen Maung
Oo and wife, local authorities, members of the Union Solidarity
and Development Association, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire
Brigade, nurses and traditional dance troupes.
