Secretary-2 inspects Mone Creek Multi-purpose Dam Project site in Sedoktara Township

Yangon, 23 March- Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Soe Win arrived at the site of Mone Creek Multi-purpose Dam Project in Sedoktara Township by helicopter on 22 March.

Construction-8 Director of Irrigation Department U Myint Than reported on location and purpose of the project, construction of dam diversion tunnel, hydro-electric power tunnel and spillways and progress of work.

Deputy Minister for Electric Power U Myo Myint reported on construction of power station, installation of power lines and tasks being undertaken by Hydro-electric power Department and progress of work. Next, Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Col Zaw Min reported on improvement of conditions including cultivation of summer paddy on completion of the project.

Director (Design and Architect) of Irrigation Department U Khin Maung Nyunt reported on Kyee-on-Kyee-wa Dam Project, feasibility study for construction of Bu Village Dam and benefited cultivation acreage.

The Secretary-2 and party inspected construction of entrance of diversion tunnel, sluice gates, power intake and hydro-electric power tunnel. The Secretary-2 also inspected construction of the 4,320 feet long main dam. About 300 feet of the dam were left to be undertaken. Staff are making endeavours for completion of the dam before monsoon.

The Secretary-2 and party inspected construction of the structure which is 187 feet deep and 87 feet in diameter. It will be used to prevent floodings. He also inspected construction of penstock, tunnel, power station and flow of water from diversion tunnel, main spillways and others.

The Mone Creek Multi-purpose Dam Project will supply water to 108,000 acres of lands and generate 75 Megawatts of electricity. The Secretary-2 and party inspected development of Sedoktara. The Secretary-2 met members of Township Peace and Development Council, departmental officials, members of social organizations at Township Peace and Development Council Office and fulfilled the requirements on education, health, economic and transport matters. The Secretary-2 met secretary, executives and organizers of Township Union Solidarity and Development Association. He spoke on working hard for regional development and successful implementation of five rural development tasks.

The Secretary-2 and party inspected cultivation of 190 acres of summer paddy.

The Secretary-2 and party went to Mandalay by helicopter. Then they proceeded to Iron and Steel Plant in PyinOoLwin where rector of DSA Brig-Gen Ohn Myint and senior military officers welcome them.

General Manager U Saw Moe Myint and Assistant General Manager U Tin Maung reported on production of steel blocks, steel balls and steel rods of various sizes, orders for production of materials and requirements.

The Secretary-2 and party inspected stockpile of raw materials, control room, production of steel blocks, steel balls and steel rods of various sizes.

They also inspected production of Ferro Chrome and calcium carbide.

Chairman of Industrial Development Committee Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Soe Win and party inspected booths at Myanma Industrial Exhibition in Hsinphyukan Ground in Mandalay in the evening.

The Secretary-2 and party viewed central booth, booths of the ministries, entrepreneurs and industrial zones with interest.

More and more people visited the Myanma Industrial Exhibition 2003 which was opened on 19 March.

Eighty-six booths of the ministries, 190 booths of industrial zones and 47 booths of entrepreneurs are on display. A total of 68 shops and 36 restaurants are opened.

There are many sports and games, elephant dance show, thaing and dobat competition at the exhibition.

The Secretary-2 and party arrived back here this evening.
