Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspects regional development works

Yangon, 23 March - State Peace and Development Council Member Lt-Gen Ye Myint left Yangon by air on 21 March morning and arrived at Mandalay International Airport in TadaU Township, Mandalay Division.

Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party together with Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Chairman North-West Command Commander Maj-Gen Soe Naing proceeded to Hkamti.

At the briefing hall of the Hkamti Airport runway extension project, Public Works Assistant Engineer U Win Lwin reported to Lt-Gen Ye Myint on extension of the runway from 4,200 feet to 6,000 feet.

He also reported on tarring and earth works of the runway.

Then, Col Min Swe of North-West Command and Deputy Minister for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint reported on use of fuel and gravel.

Afterwards, Lt-Gen Ye Myint gave necessary instructions to regional battalions and local authorities to render help in supplying gravel required for extension of the runway. He also dealt matters on distribution of fuel in time to the work site and minimizing loss and wastage of fuel.

Next, Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspected the work site and gave necessary instructions to the officials concerned. He urged them to complete the works meeting the set standards before the rainy season.

As regards the extension of the runway of Hkamti airport, the 400 feet long section of the northern part of the runway which is 500 feet long, has been graveled with thickness of 6 inches. Altogether 200 feet long section has been tarred. In the southern part of the runway, 100 feet long and 100 feet wide section has been graveled with thickness of 12.5 inches.

Then, Lt-Gen Ye Myint had discussions with local authorities, departmental personnel and members of social organizations at the meeting hall of Hkamti District Peace and Development Council Office.

First, District Peace and Development Council Chairman Lt-Col Htin Aung Kyaw reported matters on implementation of projects, cultivation of crops in the district, efforts for ensuring self-sufficiency of rice and better transportation in the district.

Hkamti Township Peace and Development Council Chairman U Mya Oo, Homalin Township Peace and Development Council member-1 Police Captain Zaw Win and Leshi Township Peace and Development Council Chairman U Hla Tun reported matters on extensive cultivation of high yield paddy strains, turning slash and burn cultivation into terrace cultivation, and reclamation of farm land in the respective regions.

Commander Maj-Gen Soe Naing gave a supplementary report.

Then, Lt-Gen Ye Myint made a speech. He said that the Head of State has laid down five rural development tasks for developing the country with momentum and the local people are to participate actively. Roads linking one village and another are to be built on self-reliance basis with a view to ensuring development in health, education and economic sectors of the respective regions. He also urged local authorities, departmental officials and personnel of social organizations to make field tours to grass-root level for ensuring regional development of Hkamti and promoting the socio-economic life of the regional people.

Afterwards, Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party arrived at Hsinthay Village on the west bank of Chindwin River by watercraft and inspected extension and maintenance tasks for the 56-mile Hkamti-Hsinthay-Lahe regional development road. At Namthegyi camp briefing hall, Capt Aung Myo Myat of local engineering regiment reported to Lt-Gen Ye Myint on completion of tarring of roads and future tasks. Lt-Gen Ye Myint gave instructions on speedy completion of the Hkamti-Lahe road which is important for development of Lahe Township. Altogether 14 miles and four furlongs of the road has been tarred and 21 miles and two furlongs gravelled.

Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party, after inspecting the paving tasks, visited the project site for extension of Hkamti Airport runway. Officials concerned conducted them around there. They arrived at Theravada Buddhist Missionary (Central) monastery and paid obeisance and offered provisions to member Sayadaw of Sagaing Division Working Committee of the Sangha Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja, Sayadaw Bhaddanta Pandita of Zeebyugon monastery, Sayadaw Bhaddanta Tiloka of Aungmyay Thazan monastery and Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kela of Myoma monastery in Hkamti.

On arrival at the District Hospital on Yongyi Road in the town, Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party looked around the oral unit, out-patient department and women's ward. Lt-Gen Ye Myint comforted the patients.

Next, Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspected the construction site of the 100-bed Hkamti District Hospital.

At 5.20 pm, Lt-Gen Ye Myint visited the training school for development of national youths of the Education and Training Department of the Ministry for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs in the town. Secretary of the Training School Supervisory Committee Capt Kyin Hsaing reported matters on the school, and District Peace and Development Council Chairman Lt-Col Htin Aung Kyaw on implementation of the instructions given on the previous visit.

Lt-Gen Ye Myint gave instructions on taking care of the students with goodwill. He urged the officials to render assistance in developing the school as well as the agriculture and livestock breeding tasks. He also urged the students to study lessons earnestly to be able to participate in the regional development tasks effectively in the future. Later, Lt-Gen Ye Myint and Commander Maj-Gen Soe Naing presented exercise books and cash for the students through Principal U Tin Maung and monitors.

At Hachun Hall of Hkamti Station, Lt-Gen Ye Myint met officials and other ranks of Hkamti Station. He urged them to actively take part in implementing the five rural development tasks and the regional development tasks. Next, Lt-Gen Ye Myint and Commander Maj-Gen Soe Naing presented exercise books for the children of Tatmadawmen of the station through Col Min Swe and stopped over for the night in Hkamti.
