Literati responsible for making efforts for national people to enjoy Myanmar literature
MWJA Central Body Meeting successfully concludes

YANGON, 12 May—The Central Body of the Third Conference of the Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association continued its meeting for the second day at Kyaikkasan Grounds here this morning.

It was attended by Minister for Information Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aung Thein, MWJA Chairman U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung) and CEC members, the Central Body members from State/Division WJAs, and observers.

MWJA Vice-Chairman U Tin Kha (Tekkatho Tin Kha) chaired the morning session and MWJA CEC member Daw Khin Than Win (Kyu Kyu Thin) acted as Master of Ceremonies. The Ministers of Ceremonies read out the agenda and announced that the quorum was complete as 153 out of 178 Central Body members attended the meeting and the meeting was valid.

Central Body members U Win Aung (Htet Thu Aung) from Mogaung Township, Daw Tin Yee (Ne Win Ni Ni) from Myanaung Township, U Than Wai (Than Wai-Taunggyi) from Shan State, U Tin Aung (Cheint The) from Monywa Township and U Thinkha Kyaw (MraukU Anichay) from Sittway Township in Rakhine State discussed the report of the Central Executive Committee, and the meeting went into recess.

When the meeting continued, Central Body member U Myint Kyi (Myint Win Ni) from South Okkalapa Township dealt with the financial statements (2002-2004) and Central Body member U Hla Myint (Kawthoung Shwe Pyi Soe) form Kawthoung Township, Taninthayi Division, the audit report.

MWJA CEC member U Soe Shein (Maung Soe Hteik-Thonze) tabled a motion on condolence for the literati who passed away, and the meeting went into recess. MWJA Vice-Chairman-2 U Than Maung (Than Maung) presided over the afternoon session and Joint-Secretary U Khin Swe (Shwe Sun Nyo) acted as master of ceremonies.

MWJA Vice-Chairman-3 U Myint Thein (Myint Thein Aung) assessed the discussions on the report of the Central Executive Committee. Central Body member U Hla Wai (Tekkatho Hla Wai) from Thegon Township, Bago Division (West), tabled a motion of approval in the report of the Central Executive Committee. Central Body member U Kyaw Nyunt (Yenatha Maung Kyaw Nyunt) from Yenangyoung Township, Magway Division, supported the motion.

Central Body member U Shwe (Shwe Yo) from Pyigyidagun Township, Mandalay Division, forwarded a motion of approval on the financial statements of the Central Executive Committee and the audit report (2002-2004). Central Body member U Maung Shein (Saya Tawla) from Mindat Township, Chin State, supported the motion. The meeting passed three resolutions, put four matters on record and made three approvals under the signatures of MWJA Chairman U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung), Vice-Chairman-2 U Than Maung (Than Maung), Secretary U Hla Tun (Hla Tun-Twantay) and Central Body members. Afterwards, the meeting went into recess.

The meeting resumed at 1.30 pm, presided over by MWJA Chairman U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung).Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan delivered a speech. He said he can easily make contact with literati and those from literary world in Yangon. He said he was pleased to meet other literati from states and divisions because it was not easy for him to meet them.

He said the third meeting of central body of MWJA coincides with the time to reconvene the National Convention. At the meeting the two motions — active participation in efforts for success of the National Convention and the seven-point policy programme together with the people and for all the literati to safeguard the nation in unity for non-disintegration of the Union which was built by all national races with the Union Spirit and for emergence of a peaceful, modern, developed nation— were discussed. It is heartening to note that MWJA discharged its national duty, he said.

He said the Ministry of Information is discharging its duties on entertainment, information and education and cooperating with MWJA and the literati for development of Myanmar literature. The ministry is also safeguarding the duties to flourish Myanma culture and character. Therefore, the Ministry of Information and MWJA are in the same boat. He said the ministry will make efforts for development of literary world.

He said he believes that all the literati are responsible for raising the standard of Myanmar literature and for making efforts for the national people to enjoy Myanmar literature and to proliferate it among them.

He said the standard of Myanmar literature is not low compared with that of literature of the nations of the world and so is the thought and writing of Myanmar literati. However, Myanmar literature is less-known in the world. He called on the literati to make Myanmar literature more popular in the world.

He urged those from literary world to shape a united Union together with the people based on the Union Spirit and solidarity spirit which express the fact that we shall never be divided and always be united and to continue to discharge national and literary duties for greater success.

Next, Chairman of MWJA U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung) delivered a concluding remark. Members of CEC and members of Central Body shouted the slogans “ Success of the National Convention and the seven-point policy programme— our cause, our cause, development of MWJA— our cause, our cause, building MWJA as a consolidated one— our cause, our cause, successful implementation of the future tasks of MWJA— our cause, our cause, building of a peaceful modern developed nation through national solidarity— must succeed, must succeed—, which brought the meeting to an end at 3.10 pm. Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan cordially greeted CEC members of MWJA, delegates and observers.
