Prime Minister
attends coord meeting of Leading Committee for All-round
Perpetual Renovation of Shwedagon Pagoda
Yangon, 23 May
- The Leading Committee for All-round Perpetual Renovation of
Shwedagon Pagoda held the coordination meeting at ancient
Buddha Images Tazaung of the pagoda at 2 pm today, attended by
Patron of Leading Committee Prime Minister General Khin Nyunt.
Also present on
the occasion were Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and
Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint
Swe and members of the Leading Committee, officials of the
State Peace and Development Council Office, departmental heads
and members of the pagoda boards of trustees.
The Chairman of
the Work Committee reported on renovation of the prayer halls
at northern archway and southern archway, Gandakuti building,
the prayer hall at western archway, the prayer hall for
offering flowers, water and oil, Bawdimandaing Prayer Hall,
Daw Dagon Khin Khin Lay Prayer Hall and other prayer halls,
extension of car parking space at the Southern Archway, other
renovation and greening tasks and construction of rest houses.
Next, member of the Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees U Kyee
Myint and officials reported on regular renovation works being
carried out at the pagoda.

The Prime
Minister gave instructions on renovation of the pagoda without
harming ancient cultural works and maintenance of the
religious buildings. Then the meeting came to a close with the
three-time recitation of Buddha Sasanam Ciramtitthatu.
After the
meeting, the Prime Minister paid homage to Padamya Myetshin
Buddha Image kept in the upper tarrace. Afterwards, the Prime
Minister paid homage to Tipitakadhara Tipitaka Kovida Ashin
Eindapala and Tipitakadhara Ashin Indacariya at the reception
hall and offered provisions to them.

The Prime
Minister then inspected renovation of the prayer halls.
At the briefing
hall of Shin Upagutta Lake, the Prime Minister heard reports
by FMI Co Managing Director U Soe Myint on renovation of the
lake and the building in which the statue of Shin Upagutta is
kept and gave necessary instructions. Later, the Prime
Minister inspected the renovation tasks.
