Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspects building of Myittha Bridge (Kalewa), Kalewa-Mawlaik Road

Yangon, 23 May - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Ye Myint of the Ministry of Defence, accompanied by officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office and ministries concerned, left here by air on 22 May morning and arrived Mandalay International Airport at 8 am.

Accompanied by Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Tha Aye, Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party proceeded to Kalay.

At Aung San Hall in Kalay Station, Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party together with Brig-Gen Khin Maung Aye of Kalay Station met departmental officials and local people. Also present were the commander, Col Nyi Tun of Kalay Station, local authorities and local people.

Local authorities and departmental officials reported on matters related to Kalay District and Township. Lt-Gen Ye Myint attended to their needs.

Lt-Gen Ye Myint gave a speech and cordially met departmental officials and local people.

At Kalay General Hospital, Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspected the site for building extension of two-storey patient ward, completion of the operation theatre and installation of hospital equipment. Medical Superintendent Dr Tin Tun conducted them round the hospital.

In the briefing hall, Medical Superintendent Dr Tin Tun reported on modern hospital equipment provided by the State, admission of patients, field trips of specialists, setting up of funds, free charge of health care service and extension of the hospital.

Next, Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspected Intensive Care Unit and eye and dental care units.

At noon, they arrived at the construction site of Myittha Bridge (Kalewa) Project on Kalay-Kalewa Road. Sagaing Division Superintending Engineer U Kyi Tun reported on finishing works of the bridge. In-charge of Kalay-Mawlaik Road Construction Project Maj Aung Htay reported on construction tasks related to the road. Maj-Gen Tha Aye and Brig-Gen Khin Maung Aye gave supplementary reports.

Next, Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspected laying of gravel on Kalewa-Mawlaik section and preparations for building the bridge on Kalewa-Mawlaik.

Kalewa-Mawlaik Road will be 36 miles long and 40 feet wide. Now, 27 miles and two furlongs out of 36 miles have been completed.

 At Myittha Bridge (Kalewa), Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party inspected building of the retaining walls, installation of main cable, laying of tar on the main bridge and progress of building the approach road on Monywa bank.
