Relief measures taken in high winds-hit townships of Rakhine State

Yangon, 28 May - High winds hit Sittway, Kyaukpyu, Myaybon and Pauktaw townships in Rakhine State on 19 May morning and about 150 households in Sittway Township and about 1,000 households in Myaybon and Pauktaw townships were affected. There have been death and missing of people as the high winds struck the areas at the time of fishing and farming. Relief measures were taken by the rescue team led by the Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement under the supervision of the Western Command commander. Officials of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs and Myanmar Red Cross Society led by the Ministry of SWRR rushed to the affected villages and are taking relief measures such as providing necessary items and drinking water and preventing water-borne diseases.
