Lt-Gen Maung Bo on inspection tour of Myeik

YANGON, 27 Nov— Member of the
State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Maung Bo of the Ministry of Defence,
accompanied by Chairman of Taninthayi Division PDC Commander of Coastal Region
Command Maj-Gen Ohn Myint, departmental officials and well-wishers, visited
Taungthaya Home for the aged in Kalwin Ward, Myeik, on 25 November morning where
they paid homage and presented gifts to the elderly.
Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party offered
flowers, oil and jock sticks and paid obeisance at the pagoda at the home. Next,
Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party went to the site for construction of the four-storey
main building of Myeik University where Pro-rector U Tun Thein and officials
conducted them around the site. Lt-Gen Maung Bo gave instructions on timely
completion and meeting the set standard. At 8.30 am, Lt-Gen Maung Bo met
military officers, officials at division, district and township levels, social
organizations and townselders at Pale Yadana Hall. Commander Maj-Gen Ohn Myint
reported on assistance being rendered to meet the sufficiency of food by putting
500,000 acres each under oil palm crops and rubber and 26,000 acres under
pepper. Next, Lt-Gen Maung Bo said it is needed to extend the cultivation of
high yield paddy strains. Local people and entrepreneurs are to cooperate in the
cultivation. Being blessed with land and marine resources, Thaninthayi Division
should attach the importance of meeting the target of agricultural and livestock
breeding tasks, he added. He also urged them to lend themselves to the
successful implementation of the seven-point Road Map of the State.

arrangements being carried out for the development of Myeik and gave necessary
instructions to officials. Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party arrived back here at 6 pm
on that day.
