More lecture halls for Sittway University

YANGON, 27 Nov — Chairman of Rakhine State Peace and Development Council Commander of Western Command Brig-Gen Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by Brig-Gen Than Tun Aung of Sittway Station and departmental officials, inspected Sittway Airport and gave instructions on 25 November.

At the site of Sittway University Construction Project, the commander inspected progress of construction tasks. Rakhine State Superintending Engineer U Thein Kyaw and Pro-Rector U Ba Swe reported the project and academic matters. A total of nine two-storey lecture halls are to be built at the university. In 2004, over 2,100 students are studying at the seven lecture halls. On completion of the No 8 building, the university can accomodate over 3,000 students.

In the afternoon, the commander attended the communal Kathina robes offering ceremnony of Sittway Station and departments at the cave of the Lawkananda Pagoda in the town.

At the ceremony, the commander and wife and officials offered Kathina robes and alms to the Sayadaws. Next, they paid homage to the pagoda and the Çakkja Muni Buddha Image.
