Workshop on development of Myanma film industry held

YANGON, 2 April—The Myanma Motion
Picture Enterprise under the Ministry of Information and the Myanma Motion
Picture Asiayon jointly organized the workshop on development of Myanma film
industry at the MMPA on Wingapa Street in Bahan Township here this morning.
It was attended by Minister for
Information Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aung Thein,
directors-general and managing directors of the departments and enterprises
under the ministry, officials, artistes, observers and guests.
The minister delivered a speech
on the occasion. In his speech, the minister called on the producers, film
directors, script writers, and officials of the Myanma Motion Picture Asiayon,
Myanma Film and Video Censor Board and the Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise to
coordinate and take a wider view on measures for development of the film
industry of the nation. Those responsible are to deal with censorship of scripts
and stories and to seek better ways and means in accordance with the policies
laid down by the State to achieve the goal. Steps are to be taken in advance
through coordination and cooperation based on the prevailing situations of the
nation’s film industry and the public’s attitude towards the industry to be able
to overcome possible difficulties and antipathies for the progress. The minister
urged the businessmen to produce more quality pictures and to prevent the
penetration of foreign pictures in the nation. He also exhorted those from the
film industry to make efforts with might and main to achieve greater success. He
pledged that the State and the ministry will render assistance as much as they
can for the drive.
In conclusion, the minister
called on those who play an important role in the industry and officials to see
to the resolutions that would be passed at the workshop.
The workshop followed at the same
venue at 9.30 am, with an address by Managing Director of the MMPE U Bo Kyi.
Members of the Myanma Motion
Picture Asiayon film directors, producers, and script writers elaborated on
policies on censorship of stories and scripts for development of the nation’s
film industry and on programmes for penetration of international film world.
MMPA Chairman U Sein Tin presided
over the afternoon session. Secretary of Myanma Video Censor Board Director of
MMPE U Thein Tun Aung and Director U Myint Thein Pe of MMPE reported on income
and profits of the video enterprise, censorship of pictures, and measures to be
taken by directors and producers for enhancing the role of the nation’s video
enterprise. Next, the workshop went into recess. Member of the Myanma Motion
Picture and Video Censor Board Managing Director (Retd) of the MMPE U Maung
Maung Khin chaired the evening session. It was followed by a general round of
discussions and suggestions for the development of the film industry.
Afterwards, the chairman
delivered concluding remarks.
