YANGON, 8 June — Prime Minister Lt-Gen Soe Win, accompanied by member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Aung Htwe, ministers, deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office and departmental heads, flew to Mandalay Industrial Zone in Mandalay by helicopter after attending the opening ceremony of Dokhtawady Bridge (Nawngkhio) on 6 June morning.

Minister inspects railway stations, factories, meets service personnel

YANGON, 8 June — Minister for Rail Transportation Maj-Gen Aung Min together with Deputy Minister U Pe Than went to Monywa station on 5 June and called on Deputy Commander of North-West Command Brig-Gen Tin Maung Ohn. The minister inspected security measures at the station and its environs and gave instructions on smooth and secure transport for the travellers, sanitation work at the station and its environs.

U Myo Lwin accredited to Republic of Korea

YANGON, 9 June — The Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar has appointed U Myo Lwin, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Union of Myanmar to the Republic of Korea.

U Hla Myint accredited to Japan

YANGON, 9 June — The Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar has appointed U Hla Myint, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Union of Myanmar to the Federative Republic of Brazil, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Union of Myanmar to Japan.

Myanmar delegation returns home

YANGON, 8 June — A Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Tin Naing Thein together with Deputy Director-General U Myo Oo and Staff Officer Daw May Thet Win of Directorate of Trade after attending the Kunming Trade Fair 2005 in Kunming, Yunnan Province, at the invitation of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, arrived back here by air this afternoon.

YANGON, 8 June—Minister for Information Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan this afternoon met with patrons and members of the Myanma Motion Picture Asiayon at Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise (Head Office) in Bahan Township and gave instructions on future tasks for improvement of Myanma motion picture.

Vice-Mayor calls for development works to meet target

YANGON, 8 May — Accompanied by officials concerned, Vice-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa went on an inspection tour of Maungmakan Kantha road being built by YCDC, which links North Dagon and South Dagon Townships and measures for water supply in Yangon this morning.

Pyu period Buddha statues unearthed

YANGON,8 June—U Hla Ohn, 70, of Dagundaing Village, Pyathataik Village-tract, Twantay Township, Yangon Division, unearthed three ancient Buddha statues on 15 May while he was digging down the earth to replace the old front-side post of his house.

Construction Minister inspects Myitnge bridge construction

YANGON, 8 June — On 6 June morning, Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun together with officials of Public Works, attended the opening ceremony of Dokhtawady (Nawnghkio) Bridge. Yesterday morning, he inspected the progress of Myitnge Bridge construction project on Yangon-Mandalay highway.
