Kyaukyedwin Overpass to benefit six townships of Yangon Division

YANGON, 11 June — Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe and Minister for Rail Transportation Maj-Gen Aung Min, accompanied by Deputy Minister U Pe Than, Vice-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa and officials, inspected Kyaukyedwin Overpass Construction project being implemented by the Ministry of Rail Transportation in North Okkalapa Township this morning.

They oversaw completion of piers of the overpass, building of concrete floor, construction of pedestrian ways and handrails. Deputy Minister U Pe Than and Project Engineer U Myo Win conducted them round the project site.

In the briefing hall, the deputy minister reported on progress of building the overpass, construction matters and efforts being made for timely completion of the project.

Minister Maj-Gen Aung Min briefed the commander on completion of 25 overpasses in Yangon City and sites chosen for building more overpasses.

The commander and the minister gave instructions that on completion of the project, vehicles will pass through the overpass in a short time without delay whenever trains enter Kyaukyedwin Station. That is why tasks are to be implemented for timely completion of the project meeting the set standard for enabling the overpass to serve the interest of the people.

Kyaukyedwin Overpass is located in North Okkalapa Township. It will be 2,235 feet long. It is Y shape overpass built of reinforced concrete. The motorway will be 28 feet wide and pedestrian way on either side will be 3 feet and 11 inches. The overpass will be 14 feet high. Its construction tasks started on 20 March 2005. At present, construction of the project has been completed by 70 per cent. On completion, people from North Okkalapa, South Okkalapa, Mingaladon, Thingangyun, Dagon Myothit (East) and Dagon Myothit (North) Townships will travel from one place to another easily.
