The Inauguration of the Myanmar Securities Exchange Centre Co.Ltd. 

lt was another significant milestone in the of the Myanmar economy since the change-over to an open-market economic system by the State Law and Order Restoration Council. The Myanmar Securities Exchange Centre Co.Ltd. open at the Myanmar Economic Bank ( Head Office ), at 21/25 Sule Pagoda Road on the morning of 7 June, 1996.

 It is a joint venture of the Myanmar Economic Bank of the Ministry of Finance and Revenue and the Daiwa Securities Co. Ltd.

 The State Law and Order Restoration Council in opening up the economy has been meticulous in planning and has taken each step forward at the most suitable time, never plunging forward in haste, yet making constructive and momentous and moves only after carefully weighing all the pros and cons.

 The inauguration of the Myanmar Securities Exchange Centre Co.Ltd. is just such a crucial step taken jointly with Daiwa Securities Co.Ltd. of Japan. It is therefore, the first organization to launch a securities exchange which will underwrite business, provide brokerage services as well as advisory services for investment, assist private companies to turn public and to make available the technical know-how for the establishment of a stock exchange in the future.

 The inaugural ceremony was attended by ministers, the Auditor-General and high-ranking government offlcials, Ambassador of Japan Mr.Yoichi Yamaguchi, Chairman of Daiwa Securities Co.Ltd Mr. Sadakane Doi, President of the Daiwa Institute of Research Ltd. Mr.Eiichiro Okumoto and members of the Executive Committee of the Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and invited guests.

 Minister of Finance and Revenue Brigadier-General Win Tin, Chairman of the Daiwa Securities Co.Ltd. Mr. Sadakane Doi, Chairman of the Daiwa Institute of Research Ltd. Mr. Eiichiro Okumoto and Japanese Ambassador Mr. Yoichi Yamaguchi formally opened the company.

D The Daiwa Institute of Research Ltd. hosted a dinner in the evening to mark the opening of the Myanmar Securities Exchange which was attended by members of the State Law and Order Restoration Council, Deputy Prime Minister Admiral Maung Maung Khin and Lieutenant General Tin Tun, minister and guests.

D Minister, Brigadier-General Win Tin, Chairman Mr. Sadakane Doi and Ambassador Mr. Yoichi Yamaguchi addressed the gathering.
