At the invitation of Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore Brig-Gen Lee Hsien Loong and wife Madame Ho Ching and goodwill delegation comprising senior officials of Singapore, arrived in Yangon by air at 11.40 am on 30 March 1999.
The visiting Deputy Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lee Hsien Loong and wife Madame Ho Ching and goodwill delegation were welcomed at the Yangon international airport by State Peace and Development Council Secretary -1 Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin win Shwe, State Peace and Development Council Member, Yangon Division Peace and Development council Chairman Yangon Command commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and wife, Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman’s Office Grig-Gen Abel and wife, Minister for Foreign Affairrs U Win Aung and wife, jDeputy Minister for Foreign jAffairs U KHin Maung jjWin and wife, Ambassador of Myanmar to Singapore U Myo Myint and wife, Dorector General of the Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet, Ambassador of singapore to Myanmnar Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow and the embassy staff.
At 2 pm, the visiting Deputy Prime Minister and delegation members called on State Peace and Development council Secretary - 1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence.Also present on the occasion were Minister Brig-Gen Abel, Minister U Win Aung, Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win, Ambassadoe of Myanmar to Singapore U Myo Myint and Ambassador of Singapore to Myanmar Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow.
At 3 pm, State Peace and Development Council chairman Defence Services commander-in-Chief Senoor General Than Shwe received the goodwill delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lee Hsien Loong in the Credentials Hall of Pyithu Hluttaw. Present on the occasion were State Peace and Development Council Vice-Chairman Defence Services Deputy Commander -in- Chief and Army commander - in - Chief General Maung Aye, Secretary -1 Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo,Secretary -3 Lt-Gen win Myint, Minister U Win Aung,Deputy Minister U Khin Muang win, Myanmar Ambassador to Singapore U Myo Myint and singaporean ambassador to Myanmar Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow.
At 4 pm, the visiting Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, his wife and goodwill delegation were given a briefing on the economy at the Hotel Equatorial. Present on the occasion were Deputy Prime Ministers vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and Lt- Gen Tin tun, Minister for National Planning & Economic Development U Soe Tha, Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw than, Ministers at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman’s Office Brig-Gen Abel and Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Minister for Finance & Revenue U Khin Maung thein, Minister for Hotels & tourism Maj- Gen Saw Lwin, Myanmar Ambassador to Singaprore U Myo Myint, Singaporean Ambassador to Myanmar Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow.
Myanmar Investment Commission Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin extended greetings to the guests and then Brig-Gen Lee Hsien Loong made a speech. Next, Minister U Soe Tha briefed the visiting Deputy Prime Minister on Myanmar’s economic strategy; Minister Brig-Gen Abel on infrastructure development in Myanmar and Minister Brig-Gen Maung Maung on trade and investment opportunities.The Ministers also replied to the questions of the guests.
In the evening, the visiting Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, his wife and delegation visited Hlinethaya industrial city. They visited Myanmar Sigma Cable Co Ltd and Pinya Manufacturing Co Ltd. They also observed production of Max soft drinks.
At 2 pm, Madame Ho Ching and party visited the Myanmar Brewery Ltd’s Tiger Beer factory in Pyinmabin in Mingaladon Township.
At 7.30 pm, the visiting Deputy Prime Minister, his wife Madame Ho Ching and delegation attended a dinner hosted by Secretary -1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin win Shwe at the Karaweik Palace on Royal Lake. The dinner was also attended by State Peace and Development Council Secretary -2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife, Secretary -3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife, Yangon Division Chairman, Yangon command Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Deputy Prime Ministers Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin, Lt-Gen Tin Tun and Lt Gen Tin Hla, Ministers U Soe Tha, Brig-Gen Abel, Brig-Gen Maung Maung, U Khin Maung Thein, Minister U Win Aung, Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Lt-Gen Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win, Ambassador U Myo Myint and their spouses, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore Ambassador to Myanmar Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow and officials of the Singapore Embassy and invited guests.
At 8.45 am on 31 March 1999, the goodwill delegation met with Singaporean entrepreneurs who have made investments in Myanmar at the Summit Parkview Hotel. Present on the occasion were Myanmar Ambassador U Myo Myint and wife, Singaporean Ambassador Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow and embassy staff and officials of the Ministry of foreign Affairs.
At 10.30 am, the goodwill delegation left Yangon by air at theconclusion of the visit. Deputy Prime Minister, and Madame Ho Ching and delegation were seen off at the Yangon International Airport by State Peace and Development Council Secretary -1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and wife, Minister Brig - Gen Abel and wife, Minister U Win Aung and wife, Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win and wife, Ambassadoe U Myo Myint and wife, Ambassador Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow and wife, the embassy staff, and officials of the Ministry of foreign Affairs.
