 Since the global trade has been widely spread around the world, there is a need to give complete market information to those who are participating in this area. According to this consideration, Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation has undertaken a pilot project namely "Agricultural Market Information Service Project (TCP/MYA/8821)" with the cooperation of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1999-2000. Project scope was mainly emphasized on collecting market information of agricultural commodities in different local areas. Pre-survey of market situation was made in 1999 at 8 Divisions and States which are ecologically different in the country by the local counterparts and enumerators. Based on the results on the survey, project was implemented for two years till June 2001-2002.

·         During the project period, two big markets which are located in the Upper and Lower Myanmar, Yangon and Mandalay Markets, are selected for the collection of the price information of agricultural commodities.
 

·         At the same time, Taunggyi and Pyay market prices which are also important for the eastern and central part of Myanmar were selected.

·         This project was sustained by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation as a regular task after the end of project period. Some markets have also been chosen for more information.
