Rain, and more to come

By Myo Theingi Cho
RAIN which fell in Yangon last Friday would be followed by more isolated showers over the next two weeks, the deputy director general of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology said.

U Tun Lwin said the fall of 1.3 inches (about 33 millimetres) had brought the total rain recorded in Yangon since the start of the year to 1.49 inches (38 mm).

There were also heavy falls in other parts of the country last Friday. Yamethin in Mandalay Division recorded 1.81 inches and 1.57 inches fell at Hmawbi in Yangon Division and Aung Lan in Ayerwarddy Division.

U Tun Lwin said the falls had occurred because temperatures in central Myanmar were rising while those in the lower part of the country were falling and a northwesterly wind from the Bay of Bengal had brought the rain.
