THE central leading committee of the Myanmar
Writers and Journalists Association will hold its third conference
in Yangon on May 11-12.
The purpose of the conference is to improve literary standards
and to promote friendship and cooperation among writers and journalists
throughout the country.
It will be held in Pyidaungsu Hall at the Kyaikkasan sports complex,
Tarmwe township.
About 170 members of the Myanmar Writers and Journalists
Association from across the country will attend the conference,
said the associations joint secretary, U Myint Kywe.
We will urge all members to help the National Convention
which starts May 17 succeed by promoting national unity, to work
towards improving the countrys literary field and to strengthen
unity among members of literary world, he said.
The conference will meet from 9am to 4pm on May 11, and 8am to
4pm on May 12.
Post-conference excursions to the National Races Village in Thaketa
township and the Defence Services Museum in Dagon township will
be arranged for members on May 13.
The association was founded in 1989 and is funded by donations
and sales of its two weekly journals, Thadin Hlwar (Newsletter)
and Khit (Age), and its bimonthly magazine Sar Oak Lawka (The
world of books).
The association also organises seminars, discussions, readings
and talks throughout the country aimed at increasing public interest
in reading.
