THE government has granted approval for
the Myanmar Engineering Society to host the 22nd annual conference
of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations in December,
the Prime Minister, General Khin Nyunt, said on May 1.
He said the MES, which will be hosting the conference for the
first time, would advise the AFEO of the decision at its mid-year
meeting in Kuala Lumpur on May 24.
General Khin Nyunt was speaking at a foundation-laying ceremony
for the societys K320 million headquarters, which is being
built on a one-acre site next to the MICT Park in Hlaing township.
The five-storey, 11,000 square feet building, is due to be completed
before the two-day conference opens on December 18.
The buildings facilities will include a main hall and an
office on the ground floor, meeting rooms, offices and a guest
room on the first floor, training rooms, a library and an internet
room on the second floor, general meeting rooms and offices for
the societys committees on the third floor and recreation
rooms and a fitness centre on the fourth floor. The MES, which
was formed in 1995, became a member of the AFEO in November 2001.
