MOST of the time I wear real jewellery to daytime events and
costume jewellery at night. Costume jewellery can sometimes be
more beautiful and distinct than the real thing and sometimes
shows better craftsmanship. Since it comes in many different colours,
it is well-suited to Western clothing.
But dont think costume jewellery is cheap. One set will
cost US$100 to $200. I usually buy it in the US and Singapore.
I try to find medium-sized jewellery. I dont like it to
be too big, but if its too small my audience cannot see
it.
I usually buy jewellery from my sisters friends. I also
have acquaintances in Mogok who often come and show me what they
have.
I have never bought jewellery from shops. My sister is a jewellery
enthusiast so she buys many catalogues. We look through the books
together and discuss what they have to offer, then decide which
designs are the most beautiful for the diamonds and pearls I have
collected. After that we show the designs to a goldsmith to duplicate.
Although I love jewellery very much, I dont wear it at
home or even when I just go out on a normal day.
Pearls are my favourite of all time. I think they make you look
younger. And diamonds are my second favourite. Since they are
white, they go well with any colour of clothing.
Every week I go weddings to sing or sometimes as a guest. First
I choose the clothes I will wear, then I pick the jewellery that
goes with the outfit. I pay more attention to the clothes.
For big events I think jewellery is necessary because it brightens
your outfit.
