Freight forwarders’ group to offer diploma course

By Yin Min Tun

THE country’s first diploma course in international freight management will be offered by the Myanmar International Freight Forwarders’ Association beginning in June.

It is also the association’s first educational activity since it became a member of the ASEAN Freight Forwarders Association in November 2000, said MIFFA vocational director, U Aung Khin Myint.

He said the course would enable participants to acquire a comprehensive academic and practical knowledge needed to perform effectively in the industry.

The diploma course consists of seven consecutive certificate courses, covering Multimodal Transport, Air Freight Operations, Sea Freight Operations, International Trade Management, Customer Service and Relationship Management in Logistics, Legal Issues in Freight Management and Basic Management.

U Aung Khin Myint said that those who obtained the seven certificates would receive a diploma in international freight management from the AFFA.

“The duration of the first certificate course as Multimodal Transport is only one week and will be offered by two trainers from overseas, including Mr Thomas Sim, the chairman of the ASEAN Freight Forwarders Association’s Working Group on Education and Training,” he said.

MIFFA will give priority to its members for participation in the course, which will be limited to 35 participants, U Aung Khin Myint said.

“Many people in the industry are active, bright and have communicative skills and international experience, so we don’t have any restrictions for trainees, but they need to have their company’s recommendation to attend,” he said.

There will be good employment prospects in the freight forwarding industry in ASEAN countries for those who successfully complete the diploma course, U Aung Khin Myint said.

Each certificate course will be offered every three months and presented at MIFFA’s conference room in the FJV Commercial Centre on Strand Road.
Each certificate course will cost FEC 250.

MIFFA, comprised of the representatives of 50 companies, was formed in 1999 and officially registered last July. It has been participating in events organised by AFFA since 1999.
