YCDC plans upgrades for roads,bridges

By Wai Phyo Myint

THE Yangon City Development Committee has launched a four-year plan to improve roads and bridges, a YCDC official said last week.

The official, from the YCDC’s engineering department (roads and bridges) said the plan took effect from the start of the fiscal year on April 1.

He said that the plan would involve building or upgrading roads and bridges to improve traffic flows in the capital.

The official said the plan aimed at bringing the city’s road network to international standard.

“Ten roads including the city’s major thoroughfares will be re-surfaced this fiscal year as part of the plan,” he said.

They are Alan Pya, Kyeikwaing Pagoda, Kan Yeik Thar, Bargayar, Thamine Railway Station, U Htaung Bo, Daw Thein Tin, Myanma Gonyee and Sule Pagoda roads, as well as sections of Strand Road.

The official said 57 miles of Yangon roads had been re-surfaced last fiscal year. They included all or part of Strand, Pyay, University Avenue, Kaba Aye Paya, U Wisara and Pyihtaungsu Yeik Thar roads.
