Spacious townhouse near Inya Road

By Jessicah Curtis
Recently renovated, the Myanmar Times House of the Week is ideally located beside Than Lwin Road.

JUST off Than Lwin Road in Bahan township, the Myanmar Times House of the Week is a fitting addition to one of Yangon’s more exclusive suburbs.

Built this year and still being renovated, the house sits elegantly behind razor wire security, and comes with a monthly price tag worthy of its stature and location.

The property has two large front gates with space to park two cars inside the compound. Unfortunately, there is no undercover garage, but the secure surroundings would offer sufficient peace of mind to would-be tenants.

The house features large double front doors that open into a dimly lit hallway with marble flooring. To the left of the hallway an elegant wooden staircase with wrought iron railings curves upwards to the first floor.

The ground floor includes a large dinning area with sufficient room for cocktail parties, a spacious kitchen fitted with modern appliances and a well lit living room with polished teak flooring. There is also a large laundry area and a small backyard.

Three large bedrooms on the first floor all include ensuite bathrooms – the master bedroom is huge, with enough space for a king-size bed as well as a sitting area and coffee table. There is a small balcony and bathroom with a big fitted bath tub.

A smaller tiled room on the first floor could be used as a study or a playroom for children, with similar options available for the large shrine room, should the future owners be non-Buddhist.

On the third floor are two more large bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and a small concrete outdoor area with iron stairs leading to the fourth and fifth levels of the house.

The fourth floor contains a medium size storage area, which might also be used as a playroom for the children or a quiet office for parents. The fifth level is a small outdoor area that overlooks the surrounding area with magnificent views of Shwedagon Pagoda.

The house is built on a 6400 square-foot block and with a few personal touches would make an ideal home for a large or extended family.

The property comes unfurnished – although satellite television is included – and renovations will be completed in a few weeks’ time. The house may not be within everyone’s price range, but is certainly worth the money for those that can afford it.
