The medicines, lingseng capsules and lingzhi cough syrup, are made from mushrooms.

“The enterprise’s aim is to make the medicines available at prices lower than imports, and to produce them at a quality high enough to export,” said Daw Soe Soe Thin, the executive officer of the department.

She said 5000 bottles of lingzhi cough syrup and lingseng capsules will be sold.

A bottle of 100 lingseng capsules costs K5000, half the price of imports.

A 60-millilitre bottle of the department’s lingzhi cough syrup costs K1000, while imports are priced at K1500.

Daw Soe Soe Thin said lingseng is effective for treating hypertension, heart disease, chronic hepatitis and stress, and for maintaining stamina. The new medicines have been safety tested by the Department of Scientific and Technological Research, and the Department of Traditional Medicine, Daw Soe Soe Thin said.
