By Kyaw Thu

THE first Jade and Gems Special Sale Emporium will be held at the Myanma Gems Enterprise headquarters on Kaba Aye Pagoda road in Yangon this week.

The event, to be held from 26 June to 3 July, is expected to attract more than 500 gem overseas traders, a spokesman for Myanmar Gems Enterprise said.

“The aim is to develop the Myanmar gems market and to earn foreign currency”, said U San Lwin, a deputy director at MGE, the organiser of the emporium.

Lots at the emporium will be on sale in euros, U San Lwin said.

The emporium becomes the third international gems and jade event to be held annually in Myanmar after the annual emporium every March, which began in 1964, and the mid-year emporium in October, which was inaugurated in 1992.
