| “It’s my duty,”
says Ko Ko Oo |
AN employee at a Mandalay hotel has received a cash reward and
a promotion after returning K700,000 left in a room by a guest.
The general manager of the Minthargyi Hotel, U Zaw Myo Naing,
praised the honesty of the employee, Ko Ko Oo, 25, saying he had
set an outstanding example for his colleagues.
U Zaw Myo Naing said the hotel emphasised good service and honesty
in its human resources programs for employees.
Ko Ko Oo said he found the money while cleaning the room after
the guest checked out on the morning on July 2.
“I was making the bed and saw some packages under it and
when I opened them I found that they contained the money in K1000
notes,” he said.
“I knew the owner would be desperate with worry so I immediately
took the money to the front desk and informed the manager.
“He contacted the owner and the money was returned to
him.”
The owner gave Ko Ko Oo a reward of K20,000. The hotel gave
Ko Ko Oo a bonus of K10,000, promoted him and gave him a letter
of merit.
It was not the first time that Ko Ko Oo had returned a guest’s
property.
“More than a year ago I returned a ring that a guest left
in a room,” Ko Ko Oo said.
“I value my job and it’s my duty to return any property
that a guest leaves,” he said.
