Looking for somewhere quiet to relax?

Sein Lan So Pyay garden

TRAVELLING along Inya road, most people don’t notice the wonderful new garden, hidden on the banks of Inya Lake. Tucked away, out of sight from the road, this secret garden is becoming a favourite hangout for many Yangon people.

The Sein Lan So Pyay (green and fresh) garden was opened on Valentines this year and has proved to be very popular.

Park manager, Daw Ohnmar Thein said the park, which has an entrance fee of K200 for adults, is targeted at members of Yangon’s upper and middle classes. Daw Ohnmar Thien said the park has attracted a number of regulars who find the garden enchanting.

“We get a lot of people coming here to write. I don’t know if they are authors but I think that the gardens are a great place to unwind for everybody,” she said.

Sein Lan So Pyay garden is privately-owned, and was recently renovated by the Sein Lan So Pyay Company.

“We intend this place to be a recreation zone for families,” Daw Ohnmar Thein said.

The garden is different from the busy and better-known section of the Inya Lake bank, and as you enter, you will be amazed by the well groomed and beautifully landscaped gardens. The soft grass and the smooth stone lanes are surrounded by colourful flowers and Bonsai plants.

The garden provides a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of restaurants and cars that have infiltrated the atmosphere on the lake’s surrounding banks. In a strange touch, the developers have installed speakers in the trees of the garden that play country music which adds a little something to the atmosphere of the surroundings.

The Sein Lan So Pyay garden is just five minutes away from the busy banks of Inya Lake and is open every day from 10 am to 8:30 pm.
