EXTRA facilities are being planned at a home for disadvantaged elderly people in Yangon’s Dagon Seikkan township, the head of its management committee said.The plans for a hospital and more residential buildings had been prompted by demand for extra places at the Shwe Than Lwin Home for the Aged, said U Ant Kyaw.


 
A CAMPAIGN aimed at countering the spread of AIDS by promoting 100 per cent use of condoms will be expanded to 100 townships by the end of the year, a Health Ministry official said last week.
 

Dr Than Hla, the director of the department’s Research and Control Division said 950 cases of the highly-infectious disease were reported to the end of June, an increase of 100 reported cases on the figure for all of 2003.

The comment by Dr Saw Lwin, a deputy director of the Central Malaria Control Unit, followed the release of Health Ministry figures showing that about 750,000 cases of the mosquito-borne disease were reported last year.
