Club Pioneer’s birthday bash

By Kyaw Kyaw Tun
Rocker Zaw Win Htut getting the crowd excited at Club Pioneer’s eighth birthday celebration.

CLUB Pioneer celebrated its eighth anniversary on August 14 with cake, models, music and the largest turn- out the club has ever seen.

People crammed into every corner of the club to see Zaw Win Htut of Emperor, Min Maw Kun of Peanut Butter and several other acts strut their stuff.

The models from Star Modelling Agency were first up, and they received a particularly warm welcome from the crowd, as did the birthday cake that followed them.

Everyone sang happy birthday followed by a quiz with a prize worth K200,000. There were a series of competitions.

At 10pm Peanut Butter blasted everyone’s ear drums with their hip-hop and rap songs including their hit ‘Mu Gyo’ (Primary).

Peanut Butter’s front man Min Maw Kun (who is more than a little popular with the ladies) and Kyaw Thu Soe worked the crowd well. There was laughter in the crowd in reaction to their lyrics, “You all say I’m ugly, but you must be blind because my mum says I am cute.”

They also performed a song that was made up of children’s poems and reading lessons which went down well with the audience.

It was 11pm by the time Zaw Win Htut made it onto the stage and with his signature long hair tied back off his face, he kicked off the show with his heavy rock number ‘Achit Tway Ma Pyo Le Ne’ (Don’t let your love die).

He soon tired of belting out the rock and switched to slower numbers like ‘Achit Ne Kyanaw Ye Pya Zat’ (A play on my lover and me), ‘Achit Myar Thu Si Hmar’ (My love is with her) and ‘Dan Yar Ratha’ (Injured Train).

As midnight approached, the crowd was still dancing and the show continued with performances from DJ Phyo, DJ AKBo, DJ Shwe Pu and Naing Naing.
