A BUSINESS delegation from Thailand led by the Thai Board of Investment (BOI) visited Myanmar late last month to explore business and investment opportunities in the country.

 

Three Myanmar wood-based furniture companies were scheduled to display products at the Thailand International Furniture Fair (TIFF) 2005, held at the IMPACT Exhibition Centre in northern Bangkok from March 4 to 8.

 

“Like the saying, ‘Love at first sight’, a well-packaged product can compel the consumer to buy it on the spot,” said U Aung Maw Thein, the managing director of the Myanmar Distribution Group Co., Ltd., which produces many leading coffee and tea mix brands including Gold Roast and Royal Myanmar.

     

“People are coming to appreciate the durability and smoother texture of paint applied by professionals,” said U Thura Aung, an assistant manager of the Thu Kha Construction Group Co., Ltd., which provides painting services.

 

CONSTRUCTION on a 12-storey commercial and residential building on Pazundaung Street in downtown Yangon will be finished in June, six months later than originally planned due to the general business circumstances in the property market.

 
HOUSE OF THE WEEK

AFTER negotiating several twists and turns along the streets of the neighbourhood of Kon Myint Thar, the Myanmar Times House of the Week can be found tucked away in a quiet area off Pyay Road, only a short drive from downtown Yangon.

 

The sixth such course to be offered, the 23-day program will be held at the department’s hall in Yangon. Successful candidates will each receive a certificate as a qualified nursery school teacher.

 

Every year 150,000 baskets of registered seed are distributed by the Myanma Agriculture Service (MAS) to cooperative farmers, who can replant them to produce a total of six million baskets of certified seed.

 

THE principal of Yankin Education College, U Mai Aung, has told 800 graduating primary teachers that education played an essential role in the nation’s development.

 
 
 

A director of the ministry’s Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department, Dr Than Hla, said the funding support from the Paris-based organisation would be used for managing animal movements, training, public awareness campaigns and research in two districts in the division.

 

According to the 2005 Yangon directory there are more than 300 slipper shops in this city alone, most of which make the shoes themselves in small workshops attached to the shop where they are sold. There are two main kinds of slippers which are widely worn - those made with velvet straps and those made with leather.

 

Ko Aung Zaw (played by Dwe) and Thandar Aung (played by Tint Tint Tun) agree to get a divorce after seven years of marriage because they cannot agree. Zaw wants to move to Yangon to start a business and his wife wants to remain in Mandalay.
