LAST week the government said Myanmar’s exports could reach US$5 billion in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2006 – up from $2.9 billion in the last fiscal year.

 

ALL export and import licences will be issued only by the Trade Council, rather than by the Export and Import Supervisory Committee (EISE) as before, said Brigadier General Tin Naing Thein, the Minister for Commerce.

THE Ministry of Finance and Revenue announced last week that it is allowing, for the first time in more than a decade, foreign exchange earners to import if they pay an income tax of 10 per cent to the government.

SALES of solar panels used to generate electricity have risen slightly over the last year due to increasing public awareness of their advantages, industry sources told the Myanmar Times last week.

 

RUBY Winery Factory, the first international-standard grape wine factory to be owned and operated by a Myanmar company, will start commercial production in 2006 with 40,000 bottles.
