New jade sites to open for exploration

By Kyaw Thu

MYANMA Gems Enterprise (MGE) started taking bids on November 21 from mining companies seeking permits to explore for jade in Kachin State in northernmost Myanmar.

The enterprise is opening 370 jade blocks for exploration in Phakant and Lonekin townships. MGE assistant director U Aye Cho said that although they have not yet been explored, the new mining blocks are located in areas with great potential to produce jade.

Bidding for the new sites closes on December 23.

Myanmar is widely known as the world’s leading supplier of jade and rubies.
