Driver Killed, Passenger Injured in Attack by So-Called PDF Terrorist Group in Chaung-U Township of Sagaing Region

     Terrorists are employing various methods to carry out acts of violence in order to disrupt state stability and law enforcement operations, and to instill fear and panic among the civilian population. Their actions include destroying roads and bridges with explosives, firing heavy weapons and dropping bombs on government buildings, residential neighborhoods and villages. Furthermore, they are also targeting non-military objectives such as cargo trucks, passenger vehicles and civilian cars through shootings and the planting of mines for detonation. 

     Since they are conducting such terrorist acts, on 22 August 2025 at 9:30 AM, a passenger vehicle operated by the Shwe Myanmar Transportation, driven by U Than Htay Lin and accompanied by vehicle conduction U Myat Soe Thu, was loading four passengers: two males and two females, from Monywa Town in Sagaing Region to Mandalay City. When the vehicle reached the area between Nat Yae Kan Village and Gway Pin Taw Village in Chaung-U Township, a so-called PDF terrorist group opened fire on the vehicle with small arms. As a result, the driver U Than Htay Lin died on the spot, while one of the passenger, U Ye Lin Aung sustained gunshot wounds. The injured passenger was transported to Chaung-U Township Public Hospital for medical treatment by security personnel, it is reported.

     It has been reported that the security personnel are investigating the culprits of the acts of terrorism from the above incident to take effective action in accordance with the law.
