The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission inspects Hlay Hlaw Inn Labour Camp

   On August 14, 2024, the inspection team, led by U Kyaw Soe and U Tin Aung, Members of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC), inspected Hlay Hlaw Inn Labour Camp in Hlegu Township, Yangon Region, in accordance with Sections 43 and 44 of the Commission Law.

   The inspection team inspected Hlay Hlaw Inn Labour Camp in accordance with the Commission Law and established procedures to find out whether the prisoners enjoy fundamental rights, including appropriate food supply, access to healthcare and provision of adequate purified water. The inspection team inquired the prisoners whether they received prison issued items and items sent by their families and whether they enjoyed, family visits. The team also looked into conditions of the workplace including safety procedure and whether there were discriminations in workplace and whether there were human rights violations and torture cases. The inspection team also privately interviewed the prisoners who wanted to meet with the team freely and privately.

   Moreover, the inspection team inspected the dormitories, clinic, library, kitchen, food storage, water purifier and water sanitation system of the Labour Camp. Additionally, the MNHRC donated general knowledge books for the prisoners.

  MNHRC inspection team will inform its findings and recommendations to the relevant department in accordance with the MNHRC law for necessary actions.
