The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission inspects Pyapon Police Lock-up and the Pyapon Prison

   An inspection team led by Members of Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, U Kyaw Soe and U Than Win conducted the inspection to Pyapon Police Lock-up and the Pyapon Prison in Pyapon Township, Ayeyawaddy Region on 5 June 2025, in accordance with Section 43 and 44 of the Commission Law.

  At Pyapon Police Lock-up, the MNHRC team inspected the conditions of detainees during the remand period, any torture occurred during investigation and whether there were opportunities to meet with family members, as well as the provision of food and drinking water, the handling of sewage, and the overall cleanliness of the facilities.

  The inspection team checked whether the prisoners were accessed their fundamental rights, including an appropriate food supply, access to healthcare, provision of sufficient purified water. Furthermore, the team inquired whether the prisoners had received items issued by the prison and items sent by their families, and whether they were permitted family visits. Additionally, the team evaluated the conditions of physical activities, right to freedom of religion, access to education and vocational training, and whether there were instances of human rights violations and torture by prison officials and fellow prisoners. The MNHRC also donated knowledgeable books for the benefit of the prisoners.

  Then the inspection team looked over various facilities within the prison including the dormitories, the prison clinic, library, kitchen, food warehouse, water purifiers, and water sanitation systems of the Pyapon Prison.

   The inspection team will send its findings and recommendations to the relevant department in accordance with the MNHRC law for necessary actions.
