3rd day of Science Festival 2025 held in Yangon

THE third day of the Science Festival Myanmar 2025 took place at the Nuclear Technology Information Centre and Yangon Technological University yesterday.

It was attended by Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Dr Aung Zeya, departmental officials, Russian officials and professors of ROSATOM and National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute), faculty members, researchers, students and invitees.

At the centre, about 100 basic education students competed in the highest Tower construction using paper and tape in the DIY Science Section.

During the Big-Journey: North Pole, a Myanmar female student who had travelled to the North Pole on a nuclear-powered icebreaker shared her experiences, and a professor from MEPhI explained how a nuclear ice-breaker operates.

At noon, at the Pathways to Russia: Career Insights programme, Myanmar students currently studying at Russian universities shared and discussed their experiences online.

In the evening, during the screening programme “The Science Movies Almanac”, documentaries were shown on topics such as producing silicon and carbon from discarded rice husks to manufacture green-energy batteries, the construction of a nuclear power plant in a developing fisheries region in Egypt, and a Russian oil company’s successful research in producing hydrogen from methane gas. Moreover, scientists from Russia and Myanmar each provided further explanations, discussed the topics, and answered questions from the participants. The Deputy Minister also made proper instructions.

At the Yangon Technological University, about 140 university students competed in

“HackAtom” in the same morning. The participants observed and supported the compilation of information and the preparation of IT software applications and PowerPoints, which were to be presented clearly within 24 hours. — MNA/KTZH
