NEPIO defines roles at strategic duties workshop

A workshop on the du ties and responsibilities of the Nuclear Energy Programme Implementing Organization (NE PIO) was held yesterday morning at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Science and Technology as Myanmar continues implementing its nuclear energy development programme in accordance with the guidelines of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

It was attended by Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Myo Thein Kyaw, Deputy Minister Dr Nay Chi Lae Lae Thein, IAEA experts Mr Vsevolod IGIN, Mr Zeki Mehmet BASKURT and Mr Muhammad AYUB, and other relevant officials.

At the event, the officials of the IAEA report ed on the establishment of a national policy position on nuclear energy and the preparation of a comprehensive report, the duties, responsibilities and functions of the Nuclear Energy Pro gramme Implementing Organization, and international experiences related to nuclear energy. Participants also engaged in discussions and raised questions.

The discussion will be held until 12 June. — MNA/KTZH
