The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission inspects Shwe Than Lwin Home for the Aged

   The inspection team led by Commissioners U Kyaw Soe, Dr. Than Myint and Dr. Myint Thu Myaing, conducted an inspection visit to the Shwe Than Lwin Home for the Aged, located in Dagon Seikkan Township, Yangon Region on 22-5-2025, in accordance with the Section 22 (e) and Section 43 of the Commission’s Law. The facility operates under the supervision of the Department of Social Welfare.

   During the visit, the inspection team met with the elderly residents in their living quarters and assessed a range of conditions, including the provision of healthcare services, food and nutritional support, access to clean drinking and household water, freedom of religion and belief, and the overall hygiene and sanitation standards of dormitories, bathrooms, toilets, and kitchens. They also inquired arrangements for recreation and relaxation, the accessibility of pension payments for eligible residents, and the availability of social pension support for those aged 85 and above.

   The team extended warm words of encouragement to the 80 elderly individuals residing at the facility.

   The inspection team will send its findings and recommendations to the relevant department in accordance with Commission’s law, for necessary action.
