Illegal timbers, consumer goods, industrial materials, boat and vehicles confiscated

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.

An inspection team of the vessel-116 under the supervision of the Taninthayi Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force made inspections.

Officials captured a total of 5.225 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K783,750 from a motorboat and related things (estimated value of K850,000) off the coast of west of Sabahlaing island in Kyunsu township of Myeik district. The action was taken under the Forest Law.

On 2 October, an inspection team conducted inspections under the Ayeyawady Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force and seized a total of 0.6162 tonne of illegal hardwood worth K123,240 in Kyangin township of Hinthada district. The action was taken under the Forest Law.

Afterwards, on 4 October, an on-duty team confiscated K10,500,000 worth of marine equipment – high configuration computer machine – without an import licence from a container at the Myanmar Industrial Port Terminal Container Checkpoint, K20,580,630 worth of sports equipment that did not match with the Import Declaration (ID) at the Asia World Container Terminal Checkpoint and K10,517,850 worth of 150 kilogrammes of toothpaste packing material – flex overprint varnish E-50 – that did not match with import licence regulations at the Yangon International Airport Warehouse. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.

In addition, a combined on-duty inspection team under the Kayin State Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force captured 8,250 pairs of foam slipper worth K3,162,600 from a vehicle at the Myawady (OSS) Trade Zone on 4 October, K1,400,000 worth of duty-free baby clothes from a vehicle and K12 million worth of an illegal bulldozer crawler from a Nissan diesel car (estimated value of K35 million) at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) Combined Checkpoint on 5 October.

The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.

A total of 4.7012 tonnes of illegal teak, sawn hardwood and other timbers worth 1,071,924 was nabbed in Toungoo and Thayawady districts. The action was taken under the Forest Law.

Therefore, 13 arrests estimated at K97,489,994 were made on 1, 2, 4 and 5 October, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee.
