Response of SAC Information Team Leader Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun to the Attack of KKO (Split) Group and so-called PDF Terrorists on the Building of Myawady Trade Zone

With regard to the heinous attack with heavy weapons and small arms of KKO (Split) group and so-called PDF terrorists on the building of Myawady Trade Zone on 25 March, the SAC Information Team leader Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun made following remarks regarding the real incident;

· Economic development of Kayin people, local residents and the region highly depend on the Myawady Trade Zone as it contributes the development of Kayin state.

The Myawady trade zone can create many business opportunities and it is also the hub for development of the area. The attack on the trade zone was a stupid act and a violent act as well, and it was also a foolish act disrupting the development of the country.

· Terrorists opened fire from a location about 200 metres away to the back of Myawady Trade Zone and they also burnt and destoryed X-Ray machines in its building.

· As security personnel defended the trade zone from the terrorists’ attack, three police force members and one service personnel from custom department fell in battle.

· One unarmed civilian was found dead and some police force members have lost contact. It was found that dead bodies of police force members, service personnel from customs department and an unarmed civilian were burnt in the building. It is witnessed that terrorists committed inhumane acts as well as war crime.   

· As a latest update, Myawady town is now under control of Border Guard troops, the Tatmadaw members and security personnel and No.1 Bridge has already opened.

· Since so-called PDF terrorists and KKO group recklessly fired with heavy weapons at Kawkareik town on 27 March, a shell hit in the office area of construction department, killing a 14-year-old innocent civilian. Terrorists also blew up Ye Pyoon bridge located between Seikphutaung and Watthan.

· According to statistics, from April to September in the fiscal year of 2022-2023, USD 1,886 million worth of goods were exported and over USD 1,071 million worth of goods were imported through Myawady Trade Zone. Myanmar has trade surplus via this trade zone.

· Such terrorist attack was an act of depriving common people’s livelihood.

The Maj-General said that the Government is making efforts to restore peace and security as early as possible with the help of security personnel. We will decisively crush all key manipulators who harm and endanger the lives and property of the people as well as the safety and security of road transport and communications. He urged the people and other organizations to participate decisively in crushing attackers who deprived the livelihood of common people and attacked the major trade zone which exports main agro-products of common people, assuming them as public enemy, it is reported.

MoH Union Minister holds coordination meeting on RDT use for international flight passengers, inspects preparations at Yangon International Airport

UNION Minister for Health Prof Dr Thet Khaing Win presided over a coordination meeting on plans to change into an RDT system for international flights on 27 April.

During the meeting, the Union minister said the infection rate of COVID-19 has declined in most regional countries, including Myanmar. Specific activities are also prioritized systematically to ease COVID-19 rules and regulations as the COVID-19 vaccine coverage becomes high.

The government also arranged to ensure the reopening of international flights and systematic COVID-19 health rules for the tourist and Myanmar citizen arrivals to develop the country’s global tourism industry.

He also talked about the declining positive cases among the passengers in commercial flights and relief flights, challenges in the resumption of commercial aviation, and the COVID19 Antigen Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) to save time and money for flight passengers.

Then, meeting attendees discussed proper services for passengers, plans to change into RDT (draft) and current challenges during the resumption of international flights, visas, health insurance, collection of Myanmar kyats for RDT test, preparations to avoid mass gatherings in RDT test section at the airport, taking swab samples, quality RDT test kits and other matters.

The Union minister instructed necessary things and concluded the meeting.

The Union minister and relevant officials inspected the preparations to conduct COVID-19 tests using RDT on the passengers of regular international flights at Yangon International Airport yesterday.

During the inspection tour, the Union minister instructed officials to systematically collect data from passengers, swab samples, the opening of more swab counters to avoid mass gathers while waiting for their test results, establish an exchange counter, welfare of airport staff and disease control activities when the results show positive.

The Ministry of Health allowed the international flights starting 17-4-2022 as per COVID-19 health rules under the COVID-19 Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment and decided to use RDT at the Yangon International Airport soon to save the cost as the infection rate drops.
