Myanmar National Human Rights Commission Statement No. (7/2025)

Myanmar National Human Rights Commission/ Yangon / June 24, 2025

Following the devastating consequences of the world wars, the United Nations was established through the drafting of the UN Charter, with the fundamental objectives of preventing future conflict, promoting peace and security, and fostering international cooperation. The Charter emphasizes that international peace and security must be maintained through peaceful means in accordance with international law. Likewise, the Preamble of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights affirms that freedom, justice, and peace are the foundations for advancing social progress and improving living standards.

According to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 16, sustainable development can only be achieved when a nation enjoys peace, stability, human rights, and good governance based on the rule of law. In conflict situations, the absence of peace leads to prolonged poverty, hindered development, and damages human dignity, affecting socio-economic progress and the ability to live a decent life.

The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission firmly believes that human rights and peace are inseparable. Lasting peace not only reduces and resolves conflicts but also builds mutual understanding, ensures inclusive decision-making, respects diversity, and guarantees equal rights under the law.

For the cessation of armed conflicts in the country, the best approach is inclusive face-to-face dialogue among all stakeholders. We are delighted to learn that the Peace Forum 2025 will bring together ethnic armed organizations, prominent figures from various fields, domestic and international experts, foreign diplomats, civil society organizations, political parties, sectoral stakeholders, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and international NGOs.

The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission expresses its sincere hope and belief that Peace Forum 2025 will contribute to reducing conflicts and pave the way for a modern, developed, and disciplined democratic federal union—a peaceful future nation that all communities in Myanmar aspire to achieve.
